Things I love

Test #04
Different lines create different structures. Those are on the same base that I’ve used so far as an object called Sputnik.

Test #03

Need an order for the lines and planes / Need to find a more efficient object and angle for the projection. I guess that’s why most people use tetrahedron for this type of project. I might try tetrahedron asap. This doesn’t look good, but depending on the movement of the animation you will found some interesting perspectives such as mirror illusion or something like that. I thought it wouldn’t work at all before, but either the movement of the animation or the angle of the tangible object might be applied in a interesting way. Also, the location of the projector is just on my desk and next the computer. The location is totally comfortable working on this, but I might try to place various locations of the projector and different objects as well, which will give various results in terms of the relationship between the light and angle of the object.

Prototype for Plan B
The styrofoam object was attached on my wall. I guess I found a few positive possibilities based on this prototype.

Plan B
I had an unclear plan A. The ambiguous plan A was honestly over my head for now. I’d like to find a simple way to get there. The material should be light weight and I found styrofoam in my neighborhood.

This is my first investigation for emerging digital source and a reality object. I’d like to keep my experiment as simple as possible rather than creating jaw-dropping busy environment here. Hopefully I’d like to prove something that is much more important than technology trick that makes me overwhelmed/bother.

There are several white things that make me pause. White, White object, White space, White paper and white dress… This particular version of the mindful breathing focuses viewer’s mind. Rather than capturing only visual presentation, it truly speaks the nature of reality at the same time.

Add this to the endangered list: blank spaces.

The most interesting article today was  “Anywhere the eye can see, it’s now likely to see an AD” written by Louise Story.  I quote, “Add this to the endangered list: blank spaces.” I love the first sentence, which is a very strong statement that shows what she wanted to talk about. The reason why I am very excited for the article was that my thesis II has a similar theme with this article.  The development of the technology brought tremendous changes on our daily life, and somehow it makes people feel overwhelmed from the huge information. The article shows many great examples, which express the new way of communication make people interested in the products or companies more than before. Those examples, such as, McDonald’s, Adidas, Got Milk?, Toyota, and Chase Bank, sometimes work well, but sometimes people get more distracted. The article did not mention about social networking sites, which are the main distraction and, at the same time, new opportunities for the businesses, in terms of advertising and branding. No one can predict what will be the next with the tremendous speed of the changes based on the new technology, but the article really makes me think whether we create more clutter under the name of the communication designer. Of course, we, as designers, need to explore all the possibilities that technology can offer us. However, I believe that the most important thing to keep in mind is that technology itself does not make great work. All the projects that have been successful were probably the same communal issue with respect, understanding and the generosity of the human spirit. I hope the way we convey for alternative media do not create more clutter any more in the future.

I quote, “I look at the wind on the trees. I watch the swimmers go back and forth,” Mr. Colley said. “I usually come here to clear my head.” From the article, Digital Devices Deprive Brain of Needed Downtime written by By MATT RICHTEL

Guest Lecture, ALEXANDER REYNA and JOHN GIST from 4mm Games

I always think the differences between Mozart vs Salieri.

Both are geniuses. What I felt from the movie was that Mozart was natural born genius compare to Salieri. However, the amazing thing was that Salieri had good eyes to find something really good.

From the lecture, I honestly thought that scenario. Through the education, art and design will be achieved at some points, but if a person has natural born talents given from GOD, he/she will achieve beyond expectation. Also, I have been thought that a game industry is very hectic and sort of too commercial to be an art(?), but the lecture changed my attitude in the game industry.

Art and design now blur their boundaries. Art could be used as a tool of communications and design could be a piece of art. however, in order to do that, as ALEXANDER REYNA mentioned in the lecture, we need to spend some time and efforts. That is not an assignment from somewhere else. It has to come from one’s mind very naturally.

Another thing that I noticed through the lecture was the relationship between ALEXANDER REYNA and JOHN GIST. Belief, challenge, respect, proud and satisfaction from each other made them look really cool.

Thanks for this great opportunity!
